Steamed Cabbage and Apples with Cheese Sauce

Steamed Cabbage and Apples with Cheese Sauce
  • 2 tart apples, peeled, chopped
  • Juice from 1 lemon
  • 1/4 cup olive/canola oil
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 t caraway seeds
  • 1 clove garlic, chopped
  • Dash dry mustard
  • Dash turmeric
  • Dash Shoyu/Bragg's/Tamari
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1/2 cup nutritional yeast
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 3/4 green cabbage, shredded
  1. Apples
  2. Combine the apples and lemon and let sit while preparing the rest (I'm allergic to raw apples and this step seems to get rid of whatever I'm allergic to).
Cheese Sauce
Heat oil, whisk in flour, add caraway and garlic, cook for a minute or two. Add mustard, turmeric, shoyu, water, and nutritional yeast; whisk and cook until it gets saucy and thick. Keep warm.

Cabbage and assembly
Steam cabbage just until tender (10-12 minutes) in a large saucepan. Toward the end of cooking, add apples. Just before serving stir in cheese sauce.
