Herbal remedies are being increasingly tried for relief from severe back pain. One of the biggest disadvantages of using NSAID for back pain is that prolonged use is fraught with dangers of side effects like ulcer or bronchospasm in asthmatics. There has been some progress in the development of COX-II specific inhibitors which are said to be devoid of side effects. However prolonged use still causes gastric irritation. Therefore the quest for herbal remedies is on and many interesting herbs have been researched and good results have been obtained.

Herbs like Garlic have been found to be very useful for managing back pain. 
Garlic is loaded with antioxidants and has been very useful in retarding the progression of arthritis. Another very beneficial herb for back pain is Boswellia serrata extract. Boswellia Serrata or Sallaki as it is known in local dialect to have been found to be very effective in managing back pain especially those which are caused by arthritis and osteoporosis. The exact action of Boswellia is still being researched but it has been revealed that Boswellia helps to minimize the damage to the vertebral column due to arthritis. Regular Sallaki use has been found to be effective in reducing inflammation and help pain-free locomotion.

Back Pain can be tackled by suitable changes in diet and lifestyle. 
Cut down on junk and fast food. Reduce obesity, especially the fatty deposit around the abdomen. Moderate level of exercise is also beneficial in tackling back pain. Do not sit for long hours on the chair. Get up and stroll for a minute before settling back to work. If the back pain intensifies with each passing day, it will advisable to visit an orthopedician or a physician. Excruciating back pain which does not respond to any treatment can be a sign of something serious in your body and must not be neglected.
